Everytime I visit someone from down south they always comment about Newcastle and geordies being rough, drunk all the time and t shirts in winter, surely we have more about us and should be perceived in a better light. Are we relly the roughest city in england?

ASHINGTON is rough

I don't were a coat because the theretwo expensive i choose to spend the cash on alcohol as i need some escapism from the daily toil. I don't get hammered just like to enjoy myself. If only the paymasters of London would see that national minmum wage is not to be interperated as "the pittance you give Northerners"

The things would be a bit better.

Newcastle is no rougher than the likes of inner manchester and Liverpool. Just look at London and the amount of kids that have been killed this year. Newcastle id a great city and in comparison i think it's fairly safe. So why dont you guys write about the huge positives about Newcastle, like the buzzing nightlife, the great city centre, the friendly people and the fantastic history, and other things like the great coastline not so far away.

Walking along high bridge street going towrds grey street last night at about midnight 3 lads tried starting on me- no one around, for no reason!!

Couldnt believe it, could have turned nasty but luckyily one of their mates saw sense - scrubbers.

Newcastle to me is like a raw city, but go to other Northern cities like Leeds or Bradford on a Saturday night out and you'll find that they're just as bad as the toon at a weekend. Mindyou I dont think there was anything as bad as Gateshead High Street in the 80's!! I've heard some bad stories about that. Although Newcastle is seen to be a hard city up and down the country on the same note it has to be one of the friendliest.:)

I have to agree that i have had more fights after night out when i lived down south than in Newcastle. To be honest it was often just because they heard a northern voice in the kebab shop.

Then the london luvvie media come out with a load of bol locks to try and paint us as a bunch of thugs.

Whenever you see england football hugs they are always meelwowl ow Chelsee. I rest my case

Don't steal the thunder of the Jarra lads

I was driving passed the Ben Lomond in Jarrow today when three lads start fighting i stopped on grange road west to watch and after about three dozen punches a couple of kicks they all had a fag and then went back in the pub together.

I was a little bemused to say the least

So my vote is for JARROW.

As with most threads on themes like this people speak/write before they think. My dad had a shop in wallsend a Barhma place i'm sure you'll agree (to be fair the Green is really nice)

But nobody would rob my dad for the first five years or so as they knew he was from Gateshead and thought he would be part of all the rough hard lads.

EHHHHH

My dad was told this after five years and two month on the first of many hold ups which was very nice of them after they had followed him and found out he wa just a decent chappie

So Vote Wahrll send for the it's rough up north title. Of course we still have the wonderful News Guardian in North tyneside to get all of the crims info from court round up
