I think this site is a great way to learn all about Tyneside, you (well I) all ways learn about the goodstuff on our doorstep or history when your PsssssD and then forget them. Maybe we could post ones here to share. I'll kick it off
with a few and firstly my favourite.
1. There's not many tyneside -tyneside -tyneside -tyneside -neys.
2. The tyne tunnel has the longest escalators in the world.
3. Swan Hunter built two ships which met the criteria of the ships owners, to exact specifications, the only yard in the world to do this and it done it TWICE.

Tyneside is the 5th Largest Conurbation (urban sprawl) in England with nearly 900,000 people! It has 25 localities including Newcastle Upon Tyne, Gateshead, North Shields, Jarrow, and South Shields to name a few. The biggest of course is Greater London with over 8 million.

A geordie we'll he wasn't but he lived he, Mr Parsons invented the turbiune and put it in a boat (the afformentioned Turbinia) and it became the first pwered naval ship in the world paving the way for Tyneside to become the leadign shipbuilding river in the whole wide world.

We have succesfully managed to repel many mackems for hundreds of years I'm not normally one for repeating histroy however i did here we once went to war with them.

The world's biggest fun run/half Marthon,enjoyed by folks from all over the world mainly for the friendly atmosphere, that being on Tyneside gives you.

One of the greatest bits of existing history in Britaion if not the world Whilst the one in the land of the anti human rights brigade is better this is hugely significant in the history of modern Europe it marked a point were the romans said "^&%$" that don't want to mix with them scots.
Breathtaking views and a peaceful environment great to relax and wondered what went on in the place your standing at.

The Monks at Blackfriars ran a restaurant in the square and its still going today sadly the monks have gone, they couldn't handle environmental health. But the grub at the Blackfriars Cafe Bar is fab nowadays
