In my opinion Shipcote is the best place to live in Gateshead.......about 1 mile from the toon, leisure centre a stone throw away, and englands best park 5 minutes away (saltwell for those who dont know), great transport links and a mint upstairs flat for £100k. Im sorry but I cant see any comparison from the quayside flats, which are smaller and have service charges.

Get a flat in Shipcote Jayne:D

I grew up in Bensham on Brinkburn Avenue and loved it, that was 30 years ago mind! I loved it round there but I became a traitor and now live on the other side of the river in kenton. The place had a real community feel. I heard last year that they were knocking some of the flats down though--is that right, if so where abouts?

Well, everytime I drive through shipcote along prince consort road in shipcote there are always dodgy charvers knocking around. Most of the property nowadays around there is rented out so people dont care about the property and community as much. Until it's cleaned up I wouldnt live there. I have heard the council want to knock parts of Bensham down which I think is wrong. They should just clean up the area as the flats themselves are quite large. The area just needs a lot of money putting in...but until then I'd stay away.

Bensham / Shipcotes has its ups and downs. Theres some lovely houses just off prince consort road on bewick road, denmark street and lincoln street, bit of modernising needs doing in places but for your money those houses are great and theyre really close to gateshead town centre and the metro to newcastle or wherever!

I know they are only a mile apart but in terms of a place to live... Lowfell wins hands down. My view is - Nicer area, less dss housing and less chance of getting burgled!

i do like the fell for a drink and i think that these pubs add to the strong community feel of lowfell. Anyway I think its a great place.

In terms of value for money bensham is much better! You cant say Lowfell justifies being 40% more expensive than Bensham!

Ive lived around the Prince Consort Road area all of my life and it's a graet place to live. Close to town, close to the leisure centre, close to the fell, close to saltwell park. What more does a girl need? and n sarcy comments.....!

Instead of asking people on here come down and have a look i lived in Bensham until the age of 21 moved down south and when i came back moved here to the teams fact is all of the above are a bit rough AND really are all the same area. Other than the fell which is where you move to if your not content with stuff your mother didn't suckle you right and you have a burning desire to vote consevative.

However the fell is rough and unfortunately your are more likely to get burgled in Low Fell than in the whole of the rest of Gateshead.

BEST ADVICE MOVE TO A PROPERTY YOU CAN FEEL AT HOME IN

I hardley venture down south, but one time seeing my pal who lived on rydal st in bensham i saw a car that had just been set on fire at the end of rydal street where it meets Whitehall Road. Flames where practically going up the side of the house at the end of Rydal street ---it looked like beirut lol.

This was in the summer of 2004 but always sticks in my mind, Im sure it's a lot better now and maybe that was just a one off.

so what do you expect. LOL

Actually i did have mates at uni who lived in flats here and they were spot on and really cheap. but not as cheap as staying at home with the oldies
