Who else thnks that Council Workers have it easy? Private businesses have owners who need their staff to be on the ball to make money. Gateshead Council leaders dont! A lot of workers are on flexi time, fantastic pensions ect and lengthy maternity leave. Please let me have a job there! Evrytime I ring them up all I get is "erm....Ill pass you through to the relevant people" I reckon it's one big party at the civic centre in gateshead.
Can anyone let me know how I can get a job there - my requirements are £27k a year , flexi time, full pension oh and I forgot, where I currently work I only get 22 days a year holiday, will the council give me more?
and guess what..its my taxes that pays for all these perks...
Rant over :)

Jimmy, I think you are being too hard on the council workers. Look at the bin men and the guys and girls at the tyne tunnel ect. They work hard and a lot of the council workers are only on 6.50 an hour.

A lot of the council are on strike this week so their pay can't be that good!

Great rant Jimmy. I work in private sector and deal with various universities and councils. They do tend to do less and at an easier and more relaxed pace - not everyone, but most, without anywhere near the same degree of pressure.
The main problem I would have is that there is much bickering in the offices and authoritarian jobs-worths who have worked their way up into management through time served - not necessarily through effort or due to having the correct attitude and life philosophy.
Imagine working 9 to 5 for a boss that does not appreciate anything you do? Obviously they're not all like that, but there is a remarkably high percentage and the employees are often bit-ch-ing - I've heard it just passing through to look at say the boiler condition or an actuator in a ceiling void. I wouldn't be able to stand it.
Not sure if the pensions are better but working for the state usually makes them more secure.
All of this however mainly applies to office staff. I think that's what you are getting at anyway. There are many workers out and about on sites and in the outside environment who do not enjoy the luxuries so to speak, but I am with you on the whole lol.

What are the council workers on strike for this time? If people lived within their means they wouldn't need to keep striking for pay rises. They should consider themselves lucky the state of the economy and the number of people without jobs!
