I completely agree, I read today that diesel has gone up by about 30% in some parts of the UK in last 12 months. Hopefully we wont see a steep a rise in fuel in the future otherwise every one will get hit from couriers (my job) to taxi drivers and heating. Everyone will feel the pinch if it keeps going up!

I know plenty of people who would rather drive to the end of the road to the shops than actually get out and use their legs... people should maybe start thinking of alternatives to using their cars everyday e.g. trams, cycling,WALKING ( how scary!!!!) Not only helping the environment by it might even improve your health, maybe the price increase wont affect your life as much

When are the fuel price increase going to stop? Is this the state of things to come. My petrol bill has gone up by 15 quid a month over the last year and its becoming a joke.

Did you know that the UK diesel price is the 3rd highest in europe just behind Norway and Sweden. (remember their wages and cost of living is higher anyway). But what can we do? It's not like we can stop buying it, I just wonder when we will see it all ever level out. If not, we may well have to look at other means of travel. Sometimes I think when will it end....And No im not blaming Gordon Brown as some people have been (not on here though).
If it doesnt level out soon Im emigrating!

well my suggestion is to walk, use your bike or get on public transport - instead of driving half a mile to drop the kids off at school or to the local shops!!??!!

Ive already posted on here, and I can see everyones frustrated. Today in London has highlighted the fuel increase not to mention the further 2p tax rise due to come in soon for fuel. The lorry drivers are complaining that the europeans are filling up abroad then doing their deliveries and pickups here and then going back abroad. They must have big tanks. :)

£33k a year not enuff boys? I tell you what...the lads in iraq and afghanistan would love to be on that!!!!! The nurses that work all hours of the day! The fireman who work and risk their lives! and then you have the lorry drivers who deliver fuel striking because they want a bit more - let me tell you--no sympathy from me!!!!!!!!!!!

We'll a bit of respite on the forecourts at the minute ASDA Gateshead is the cheapest i can find 110.9 today
Maybe we could all help each other out by posting the fuel prices in and around our areas. to get the best deal

10-08-2008, 01:48 PM
Now thats one of the best prices we've seen in a while. Thanks for that Tommy! I'm off to fill up.

13-08-2008, 05:17 PM
Have now seen tesco at 109.9 a litre :)

16-08-2008, 08:15 AM
ASDA can do better 108.9
going down however the wholesale crude price has gone down from $143 to $109 so how come we haven't seen a forecourt reduction of 24% eh its all a load of old bo locks that would make the price at the pump around 87p
its a rip off
CHeezer
02-09-2008, 09:26 PM
Wholesale petrol prices have continued to fall
SO WHY HAVEN'T THE PRICES AT THE PUMP????????????????????????
Do the Spanish get a better deal when they buy petrol? I dont understand how they only pay 98p a litre . Is it because they have a strong euro?

I never thought i'd see these prices again though it is still expensive. doid you now that the government takes 63.5p for every litre and then takes VAT and at the end of the year corporation tax from both the retailer and the supplier (e,g. BP/Shell/Total) so your only giving about 14 p to the retailer manufacturer and distributor
Shame on you fact cat Gordon
your bust just went BOOOOOOOM

I dunno how it works really but I do know that Ive seen the demise of garages in recent years. Look on Durham Road next to Shipcote, them 2 petrol stations have shut and one of thems just a piece of waste land now and the other apartments. Supermarkets are buying that much of the stuff i spose local garages cant compete.
I used to go to that shipcote garage for me midnight snacks at the weekend lol.

Looks like they might be creeping up again, not as bad as last year like but still every penny counts.

Was in France last week and diesel was 1.39 euros a litre...!!! That must be about £1.15 a liter
How can they charge that much less than us.?????

This is an older thread, but looking back from now, it would appear that fuel prices have by and large continued to rise. I would expect to see more of the same.
We are "compensated" by cost of living rises and minimum wage rises (which don't positively affect those in higher income brackets), but the government like to get that infamous delay in there whereby everything goes up a few months before wages and so called cost of living. They try to appease us with temporary VAT cuts, which does not solve the problem for us, it encourages materialism, as if we can be kept happy with yet more useless and uneeded junk. I am a human being, not a "consumer".
If you are an employer, then you actually get shafted worse, as you are legally forced to pay higher wages, but cannot charge customers more in such a competitive marketplace.
There are many alternative forms of energy as well. Millions are spent on the means to punish us for slightly over-filling bins, for not taxing our cars, for using red diesel etc etc. Millions are spent advertising the need to reduce our "carbon footprint" and "go green" and to finance slogans and mantras like this, which are nothing short of gradual mass programming. Kids repeat these phrases and schools drum them into the youth of today under the false impression that they are helping. No, you are only furthering a larger and more sinister agenda.
We are now forced to recycle, not that I have anything against recycling, I am just against not having a choice.
We have the means to set up and use electric cars and clean energy now! Examples are wind, wave, solar and geothermal - the latter being the best, but only practicable in certain geographic locations. Why is this not implemented? Why is the money that is spent on punishing disobedience toward outdated systems not spent on replacing such systems? I mean yeah, money is being drip fed to such clean energy initiatives, but not on anywhere near the scale it could be. It is all a big farce if you ask me, but it is so orchestrated that it must be deliberate.
We are walking pound signs, kept dumbed down, hypnotised by daytime television and our beliefs and ideals are largely moulded by the media. I feel more and more de-humanised everyday. Until more people wake up I am a lone ranger however, but I try to be as positive as I can. I am just being frank and brutally realistic in this post. Life is what we make of it, although there are those that make it that little bit harder for the lower socio-economic groups to achieve any semblance of status or affluence. Rant over...

We must go with it until we each own personal oil wells I suppose, which isn't going to happen if we are honest.
Nobody forces us to buy fuel and they can charge what they want - it's theirs, but I would agree that it is not really a fair choice when the whole of our infrastructure is designed around and reliant upon the transport of goods and people around the nation. We don't really have a choice when this is taken into consideration.
A few people designed cars which run on alternative fuels - one of them did it with solar power and water many years ago, like in the 90's or something, but they always sell out the patents to the oil companies and we are back at square one. The oil companies are happy to give big sums of money out to maintain their monopoly.

I don't know much about alternative power or patents etc, I would tend to think if such things existed they would be available. Then again we never know and I read something on here reminding me about the tax scandals so you can never really trust people can you. If it makes money then people - greedy people - will tend to do it even at the expense of others. Just watch The Apprentice :p
I just think the price of petrol is far too high and that we are taxed far too much on everything. What is the solution though? Is there one?

well i havent left the country yet. Reading this forum, it can be seen that petrol has gone up more than 20p a litre in 3 years. Better than i expected if Im honest. thought it night be £2 a litre. Only problem is I havent had a pay rise.

It's ridiculous isn't it I walk as much as I can now cos it's so expensive to run the car. With fuel prices and inflation we don't stand a chance

I'm glad prices are coming down even slightly. I passed a petrol station the other day where unleaded was £1.28...still massively overpriced but better than the £1.38 I've spent in the past
