:)I have quite a young family, two children aged 5 and 8 years old. I want to take them to a fun yet educational day out, anyone know of a good place? We enjoyed visiting the blue reef aquarium in Tynemouth last year but i am struggling to find another place that will offer fun and information at the same time. Anyone have children, that can offer me advice?

Children also like spending time somewhere different or interesting, like the beach, or camping or in a caravan, in the countryside or even around the house if mentally stimulated and the surroundings are in someway altered.
It is about discovery and adventure. Even build a camp using upside down furniture and bed sheets.
This comes down to your imagination and ability to relate to them. Decide which facet of your childrens' personalities or thinking capacities you want to develop and then design some form of game around that objective, whether a search and find game, a card game, a board game, a verbal or memory game or small physical challenges and you will probably find that they love participating.
They will bond with you more, and will seek your praise and approval (as all kids do from their parents). I don't have children, but I have done such things with relative's children i.e. cousins and friends kids. I generally study people as I think people represent the most interesting and diverse subject matter on the planet. Worth a try anyway, isn't it?

I used to babysit for friends and the kids used to love building camps. Not sure every parent would want their furniture tossed around, upside down and back to front mind, but the kids loved it. We used to read and have packed lunches in the camp :)
