Honestly, is it really necessary to have penalties for people dropping litter?

I have read that Newcastle has the highest fixed penalties in the country! Surely we should be focusing on other important issues such as violence and crime in our neighborhoods? Our councils are supposed to help our communities and all they are doing is penalising civilised people. Surely a warning to one side will be more benficial!! I wish they would start looking at the wider issues that effect us all in Newcastle, not the petty litter penalties that seem to be of high importance. What is the world coming too???

I agree with you Loopy about focusing on crimes a bit more serious than dropping litter. To be honest with you though they should be fined. We have to pay taxes to pay for cleaners to sweep their cr-p up. It's costen us a fortune. And what about recycling? Im sick of the tramps who drop litter and when i say tramps I dont mean people who are living on the streets (they probably arent as ignorant) as those chavs whio chuck their tabs on the ground and drop rubbish. Fine the b-star-ds Thats what I say.

Working through Jesmond today I saw out side one of the banks a worker obviously on a fag break and just dumping her fag on the ground. I nearly went into the bank to complain but had to get to work. Might do it tomorrow. Some people just dont care. Are these people just plain Thick? Should we start and name and shame banks?

Gateshead Metro today. I saw a women and a girl whom I presume to be her daughter today. The mother in front of her daughter took what must have been her last cigarette from the box and threw the box on the floor. I asked her to pick it up she said "p*ss off". I couldn't believe my ears. What type of example is this to her daughter. Now I'm no snob but I think people like this should just be locked up in an area dedicated for people like this. I wish they would keep out of my life! Low life that they are. She jumped on a bus heading for Deckham.

:)I laughed my head off today when I read the Ronny Gill and its said 4 people have been fined. Fantastic news - They were all from Newcastle--Good on the city council for fining the scrubbers! Have a read - the headlines are "Courts catch up with litter louts". About time the lowlife are caught and fined.

I would say for all there education a lot of students are culprits, dropping their takeaway boxes all over the shop after a night out.

Walking down Northumberland Street yesterday I saw a woman and her kid who looked about 10 years old. The woman through her fag on the floor, and I heard the kid say "what shall i do with this crisp packet?" She grabs it off him and chucks it on the floor.

a) She looked like the kind of person who feds her kids sh**e
b) She looked 50 with her fag face
c) What a tramp for chucking the packet and her fag on the floor
d) Her kid has no chance being dragged up with those manners!
