Here are the figures released today from Jan08-Jan09 and shows that the North East fell the lowest in the year...better than falling the most!
East Midlands: £125k (annual fall 14.4%)
East: £167k (down 14.5%)
Yorkshire and the Humber: £127k (down 13.6%)
London: £306k (down 14.1%)
South East: £193k (down 16.1%)
North East: £113,962 (down 12.7%)
North West: £119k (down 14%)
West Midlands: £132k (down 14.3%)
South West: £165k (down 16.6%)
Wales: £115 (down 19.7%)

Welsh house prices nearly slipped buy 20% through the year!

Thing that gets me is that they tell us to move south to get a better job but at three times the cost why would you someone on 30grand would need to be earning 100K to get a simmliar standing house as back here so i don't understand why so many geordies who moved south don't sell there house move back buy a house and garner good interest from the spare change

Maybe the jobs do pay more but your right, the difference in salary doesn't account for the difference in house prices.
I mean in the NHS for example the London weighting is only about 15% extra salary but houses can be double. In the south west the house prices are nearly 50% more than what they are here and the pay is only about the same-ish. Better living down south? I DONT THINK SO. I think anyone who stays down south is mad. Why dont they cash their home in and move up north and live mortgage free?
