The High Level Bridge

Whats happening with this bridge? When will it be done, and someone told me its just going to be for buses - is that right?

Hi,

I heard that the route in to Newcastle over the bridge will be for buses only and the route out of Newcastle for all traffic. I may be wrong , maybe someone from the council could clarify, if theyre not busy:D

Hello All, I will now put the record straight!

The new High level bridge will only allow public transport accross it! and it will flow one way only that is from Newcastle to Gateshead (Southbound). It's not strong enough to support loads of cars and was originally only built for horses and carts ;)

i reckon its really spooky and if you walk across it theres always some shady people about half way across it, i wont walk across alone, but i think its better its only one way, cant believe 2 buses used to pass each other on it

For me this is my fav bridge.

Newcastle Gateshead have done a great job on the new colour of it, and the lighting for the paths are good too. At the end of the high level bridge on the gateshead side are new flats so there are plenty of peole walkng around and it's safe nowadays although a few years ago it could have been dodgy.

Was this bridge built by our Robert i think it's history is something that we should be proud of it's architecturaly superior design the craftsmen who have worked on its restoration have done a fab job. i wounder how long though until we have to pull it down does anyone know exactly how old it is?
