Can Hair Clean itself if you dont wash it?

A friend of mine has stopped washing her hair, now for over a week and it's looking very greasy indeed. She thinks it will start cleaning itself after a few weeks! She says she is helping the environment by not using shampoo and conditioner bottles and shes now using less water. Will it really clean itself? I think she's just a plain soap dodger.

After thinking i'm to nosy to do that whilst reading an article in FHM this morning about how never to give advice a girl about a girl friend. Here i am only a few hours later flying in the face of that and proving myself right.

Get shot and what ever you do don't go out on a double date you'll as you'll probably drown yourself in too much prefumery which when it wears of a bit will lead the lads to think it twas you who had the feint wafts coming from your pits all night.
