Why doesnt the Newcastle Gateshead Powers get there heads together and get a taxi boat or 2 going up and down the tyne with some strategic drop off points? For example it could run from dunston to the Staithes to the swing bridge and to St Peters Basin and even to NOrth Shields and Bill Quay ect. There are many residents there and Im sure the fares would more than pay for the wages and running costs - plus a few more tourists might use them -- there are quite a few people living at dunston and the staithes and i good river taxi could rejuvenute the quayside during the week!

Ive lived in St Peters Basin for 6 years and if there was a boat from here to the quayside that'd be fabulous as I work on Dean Street. Im sure there must be numerous people here at the basin who'd agree.

So how would that work- it would cost a fortune! a boat'd be about £50k then jetties would have to be built ect at all the stops. I dont think it would be viable.

I'd put some money towards it in the way of a travel card i live at the dunston staiths so ideal for me i work on Grey street and when i get stuck in the car for an hour when its a 15-20 min walk then i get fuming. have often thought about getting a jet ski but i don't fancy hauling it half way up the street

It would be fantastic, imagine in the summer being able to get on a boat to shields from the quayside and back. I live at North Shields so if a boat went that far that would be mint...nice little jaunt doon the tyne superb! If you had a monthly pass or something to use incorporated in with the metro surley it would work, loads of people would use it.
